38-year-old singer Mariah Carey had secretly married Cannon in Bahamas in April.
According to the sources, the singer was desperate to have a lavish party for friends and family but called off her plans, as she couldn't get it funded.
"The small wedding in the Bahamas was nice, but it was not Mariah's style. The lady loves a spectacle," the NZPA quoted a source, as telling In Touch Weekly magazine
"Mariah was willing to pay for the wedding, but the way she hoped to pay for the wedding was through the sale of photos. No one was interested," the source added.
Meanwhile, Cannon, who first met Mariah on the set of the video for her single Touch My Body, has been surprising the singer with expensive gifts.
"Nick went to a local Tiffany and Co., where he spent time choosing a gift for Mariah and put it in a regular paper bag so he could surprise her," said another
