SANTO DOMINGO. - The National Drugs Control Agemcy (DNCD) seized 96 kilos of cocaine in three bundles Wednesday dawn, airdropped from an unidentified plane at Batey Montecarlo, La Romana (east), but there were no arrests.
The airdrop of drugs from planes has become commonplace in the country, with at least 10 reported so far this year.
The DNCD reported the operation noon today, and said members of the Dominican Air Force (FAD) and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) also took part.
The confiscation took place near 4 a.m. when DNCD agents in the zone for “tracking the place where the drug was dropped, “and left to possibly gather more bundles,” of 30 bags each.
After the drug was taken for analysis, it was determined it was pure cocaine.
The DNCD said the suspects were being “pursued electronically,” and the airplane’s radar trace was detected, which forced them to abort the drug trafficking operation.
